Peringatan Warisan Pendidikan Perempuan oleh Rahmah El Yunusiyyah

Suara News - RRI.CO.ID, Padang Panjang - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, retraced the historical footsteps of national heroine Rahmah El Yunusiyyah in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, Thursday, March 12, 2026. The visit aimed to highlight the legacy of a prominent female figure who played a major role in advancing women’s education in Indonesia.

The activity began with a visit to Rahmah El Yunusiyyah’s former residence, which has now been transformed into a museum. During the visit, the minister reviewed historical records documenting her life journey, from her family background to her efforts in establishing a women’s education institution.

Fadli Zon conveyed that Rahmah El Yunusiyyah’s pioneering efforts remain an important example for society, particularly for Indonesian women. He noted that she began her educational movement at a young age by founding a school that later expanded significantly.

“At a very young age she took the initiative to establish a school that has continued to grow and has produced many teachers who are now spread across the Indonesian archipelago,” Fadli Zon said.

Rahmah El Yunusiyyah founded the Diniyyah Puteri educational institution, which played a crucial role in developing women’s education based on Islamic values. She was officially recognized as a National Hero by the President of Indonesia in 2025 in recognition of her contributions to the nation.

The institution she founded has produced not only educators but also women leaders who contribute to society and public life. Several prominent figures, both nationally and internationally, are known to have emerged from the institution.

Fadli Zon also emphasized the historical importance of the museum located in Rahmah El Yunusiyyah’s original home. He encouraged efforts to designate the site as a National Cultural Heritage landmark so its historical value can be preserved for future generations.

Through the visit, the government hopes younger generations will become more familiar with influential women figures in Indonesia’s history. The initiative is expected to inspire continued efforts in advancing education and women’s empowerment in the country.
