Suara News - RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland, Ngurah Swajaya, underscored the importance of harmony and interfaith tolerance during this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebrations, which coincided closely with other major religious observances such as Nyepi and Easter.
In a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Bern received in Jakarta on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Ambassador Ngurah emphasized that Eid once again served as a moment to strengthen bonds of kinship and community.
"The fact that Eid this year aligns with Nyepi Hindu Day of Silence) and the upcoming Easter reminds us that within diversity lies the power to respect one another and reinforce unity,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
He called on Indonesians everywhere to continue nurturing harmony and togetherness.
The Embassy also noted that Desrial Anwar, who served as the khatib (preacher) and imam for the Eid prayers at Indonesian Embassy in Bern, urged worshippers to forgive each other, avoid belittling others, and cleanse their hearts of arrogance.
Hundreds of Indonesians from across Switzerland and Liechtenstein joined the Eid prayers and halalbihalal gathering hosted by the embassy on Friday, March 20. The community celebrated with traditional dishes such as ketupat, opor ayam, rendang, sambal goreng ati, and assorted festive cakes, evoking the warmth of home.
“The spirit of togetherness was deeply felt throughout the celebration. Even the food preparation and event arrangements were supported by our brothers and sisters from different religious backgrounds,” Head of Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs at the embassy, Dahlia Kusuma Dewi, said.
The celebration reflected Indonesia’s pluralism abroad, where Eid became not only a religious occasion but also a shared cultural moment of unity across faiths. ***
